MC Loma e As Gêmeas Lacração were a Brazilian brega-funk trio from Jaboatão dos Guararapes (Greater Recife, Pernambuco), formed by Paloma Roberta Silva Santos (MC Loma, lead vocals) alongside twin sisters Mirella Santos da Silva and Mariely Santos da Silva (songwriting, vocals, dance). Before music turned into a job, MC Loma had sung in church, while Mirella and Mariely wrote the lyrics to “Envolvimento” and pushed the idea of filming a homemade clip; the song blew up in early 2018 and quickly became framed as one of Carnival 2018’s defining hits. That sudden visibility drew co-signs and on-stage support from major Brazilian artists, and it also led to a deal with Start Music (linked to the KondZilla ecosystem), which kicked off a rapid-fire 2018 run of singles and videos including “Treme Treme,” “Na Vibe,” “Meu Ritmo,” “Paralisa,” and “Passinho do Japonês,” followed by more releases like “Lacração,” “Rebola,” “Disputa do BumBum,” and “Hit Paradinho,” plus guest appearances on tracks by artists such as MC Gui and Jerry Smith. “Passinho do Japonês” also sparked backlash for stereotyping Japanese culture, showing how fast their viral-era pace could collide with public scrutiny. Mid-2018, some shows were cancelled after it emerged MC Loma was not attending school, and by late 2018 the trio said they had split from their management over career handling and money issues; a legal dispute reportedly sidelined them from performing for months. They returned with new releases in 2019 (“Malévola,” “Ela Me Usa e Abusa,” “Xonadão,” “Quero em Dobro”), continued into 2020 with tracks like “Predadora” and “TAVA ALI,” before ultimately disbanding in 2021.
