Jordin Brianna Sparks, born December 22, 1989 in Phoenix, Arizona, is an American singer-songwriter. Sparks exhibited her passion for singing from an early age, participating in various local talent shows and winning local awards however her rise to fame came in 2007 when at 17 years old, she became the youngest winner in the history of star-making series American Idol. Following her win, Sparks marked her music career with the release of her debut studio single, "Tattoo," which reached number 8 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 Chart, earning platinum certification from the RIAA. In 2007, her debut self-titled album charted across the globe, hitting the top 20 in Australia, Canada, Ireland and the UK, and climbing to number 10 in New Zealand and the U.S., but it was the duet “No Air” with Chris Brown that propelled her to the top of the charts, securing the Number 1 spot in both Australia and New Zealand, number 2 in Ireland and number 3 in the U.S and U.K. Her second album Battlefield (2009) achieved similar results, landing at number 7 on the Billboard 200 charts with the title-track hitting number 3 in New Zealand, 4 in Australia and 10 in the U.S with follow-up track "S.O.S. (Let the Music Play)" topping the U.S. Hot Dance Club Songs chart. In 2011, Sparks made her acting debut in the film, Sparkle alongside Whitney Houston, accepting further film, television and Broadway roles over the coming years. After a label dispute over her acting priorities, Sparks’ third album Right Here Right Now finally emerged in 2015, however it failed to attain any significant chart rankings, and the singer returned in 2020 with independently produced Cider & Hennessy garnering a similar result. Despite this, Sparks continued to release music over the next few years, including a collaboration with For King & Country on “Love Me Like I Am,” (2022) "DNA" (with Maurice Moore) (2022), and "Deux" (with Elijah Blake) (2023). Sparks finally returned to the charts in October 2023, with “Call My Name” which climbed to number 29.
