Peter Murphy

The charismatic lead singer of Bauhaus from 1978 to 1983, Peter Murphy (born Peter Jon Joseph Murphy in Northampton, July 11, 1957) went on to form the short-lived Dali's Car with Mick Karn (Japan), before devoting himself to a solo career that began in 1986 with Should the World Failed to Fall Apart. A post-punk figure with theatrical vocals, he released six albums, including Love Hysteria (1988), Deep (1990) and Holy Smoke (1992), until Bauhaus reformed on stage in 1998. His move to the U.S. gave rise to several group and acoustic tours, including the double album Alive Just for Love in 2001. The following year saw the collaboration of Turkish musician Mercan Dede on Dust. The release of his eighth opus Unshattered in 2004 is followed by a second Bauhaus reformation (2008) and the solo album Ninth in 2011. In 2014, the Youth-produced album Lion is accompanied by the Mr. Moonlight tour DVD. In 2015 followed the complementary Remixes from Lion, before an eclipse of several years. Back in the studio after the Covid-19 pandemic, the man dubbed the "Godfather of Gothic Rock" recorded a tenth solo album, Silver Shade, released in 2025, featuring Boy George on "Let the Flowers Grow".
