Barrabas, a Spanish musical group formed in 1971, was founded by Fernando Arbex following the dissolution of Los Brincos. The band combined symphonic richness with Latin rhythms and funk influences, similar to contemporaries like Santana and Mandrill. Their debut album, Barrabás, subtitled Música caliente, featured hits such as "Woman" and "Wild Safari", which achieved international success, reaching Number 1 in Canada. The group's second album, Barrabas Power (1973), marked the departure of Iñaki Egaña, who was replaced by José Luis Tejada. In 1974, their album Release Barrabas included "Hi-Jack", which topped charts in Spain and reached Number 1 on the North American black music charts. The band continued to evolve, releasing notable albums like Heart of The City (1975) and Watch Out (1975), which featured maxi-singles that solidified their presence in the funk-disco market. After a hiatus, Barrabas returned in 1981 with a renewed lineup, producing hits such as "On The Road Again" from the album Piel de Barrabás. Their final album, Forbidden (1983), marked the end of their active career. Several compilations and remastered editions were released after this, including Barrabas Power - Abraxa (1995) and 70's Los Años Jovenes (2002).
