Nathaniel Hale, who performed as Nate Dogg, was an American singer-songwriter who first gained attention in a trio named 213 with fellow rappers Snoop Dogg and Warren G and went on to collaborate with other artists and release three solo albums. He had several brushes with the law and suffered a stroke in 2007 which left him partially paralysed. He died aged 41 due to complications from further strokes on 15th March 2011.
Born in Mississippi, a cousin of Snoop Dogg, he sang in church as a child but before he commenced his career in music he served for three years in the US Marines. A demo recording with 213 led to a contact with Dr. Dre and he appears on the rapper's debut album, 'The Chronic'. He is credited on 18 songs on the Billboard Hot 100, mostly in collaboration with other artists including 50 Cent's number one hit '21 Questions' in 2003.
Other hit singles include 1994's 'Regulate' with Warren G. which went to number two, 'Shake That' which reached number six, 'I Like That' with Chingy and I-20 which peaked at number eleven, and 'Nobody Does It Better' featuring Warren G. which went to number 18. His 2001 album 'Music & Me' reached number three on Billboard's Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Chart.
