Prince Royce, born Geoffrey Royce Rojas on May 11, 1989, in the Bronx, New York, to Dominican parents, began his musical journey writing poetry and participating in school talent shows before transitioning to songwriting in his teens. At 19, he met producer Andrés Hidalgo, who introduced him to Sergio George, leading to a contract with Top Stop Music. His self-titled debut album, Prince Royce (2010), featured hits like "Stand by Me" and "Corazón Sin Cara," the latter becoming the best-performing Latin song of 2011 in the U.S. The album topped Billboard's Tropical and Top Latin Albums charts and was certified 10× Platinum (Latin) by the RIAA. His sophomore effort, Phase II (2012), continued his success with singles like "Las Cosas Pequeñas" and "Incondicional." In 2013, Soy el Mismo produced the chart-topping "Darte un Beso," earning him multiple award nominations. Prince Royce ventured into English-language music with Double Vision (2015), collaborating with artists like Snoop Dogg on "Stuck on a Feeling" and Jennifer Lopez and Pitbull on "Back It Up." His fifth studio album, Five (2017), included the hit "Deja Vu" with Shakira, which achieved 15× Platinum (Latin) status and experienced a resurgence in 2023 due to viral popularity on social media. In 2020, he released the double album Alter Ego, featuring collaborations with Marc Anthony, DaniLeigh, and Maluma, debuting at number 1 on the Top Latin Albums chart. His seventh album, Llamada Perdida (2024), reflected personal themes and included singles like "Lao' a Lao'" and "Te Espero" with María Becerra. In 2025, Royce released Eterno, a conceptual album reimagining English pop classics like "Yesterday" and "I Want It That Way" into bachata, showcasing his versatility and honoring his musical roots.
