Elmer Figueroa Arce, better known by his stage name Chayanne, is a Puerto Rican Latin pop singer and actor, born on June 28, 1969, in Rio Piedras. His nickname comes from his mother, who named him after his passion for the American TV series Cheyenne. At the end of the 1970s, he applied to join the group Menudo, but the producers turned him down because he was too young. He then joined Los Chicos, which finally split up in 1984. He then decided to pursue a solo career, signing with RCA Victor. He released his first album, Chayanne Es Mi Nombre, followed by Sangre Latina, in 1986. But it wasn't until the following year and the release of his homonymous album that he rose to mainstream success, mostly thanks to the singles "Fiesta en América" and "Peligro de Amor," both of which peaked at number 4 on the Hot Latin Tracks chart. He would rise to the top of this chart in 1989 with "Fuiste un Trozo de Hielo en la Escarcha" and later in 1990 with "Completamente Enamorados " from Chayanne II (1988) and Tiempo de Vals (1990), respectively. In 1992, Provócame gave birth to a new hit, "El Centro de Mi Corazón", which also reached number 1. Two years later, he released Influencias, an album on which he paid tribute to his musical heroes, featuring songs by Roberto Carlos, Sandro, Juan Gabriel, and Julio Iglesias. The singer-turned-actor enjoyed a great deal of success in the 2000s and 2010s, reaching the top of the US Latin charts with the LPs Sincero (2003), Cautivo (2005), No Hay Imposibles (2010) and En Todo Estaré (2014). Still active in 2022, Chayanne unveiled a new track, "Te Amo y Punto", which went to number 22 in Mexico and cracked the Top 10 of the Latin Airplay chart in the United States. The single preceded the release of his 16th studio effort Bailemos Otra Vez (2023), an album that also contained the chart-topping single "Bailando Bachata."
