Horse Feathers

Horse Feathers is an American indie folk band formed in Portland, Oregon, by singer-songwriter Justin Ringle, who moved from Idaho to Portland in 2004. Ringle began performing under the moniker Horse Feathers at open mics, and in 2005, multi-instrumentalist Peter Broderick heard Ringle's demos and offered to help flesh them out. The duo recorded the debut album, Words Are Dead, in February 2006 at Miracle Lake studios, releasing it that September on Lucky Madison. Subsequent albums include House with No Home (2008), released on Kill Rock Stars, Thistled Spring (2010), Cynic's New Year (2012), So It Is with Us (2014), and Appreciation (2018), with each release expanding the lineup to include cellists, violinists, and a full rhythm section. The band toured extensively, and Cynic's New Year charted on the Billboard charts despite selling fewer copies than their previous record. Notable singles from their discography include "Fit Against the Country" (2012) and "Without Applause" (2018).
