Vividly capturing Matt Corby’s personal and creative growth over a tumultuous half decade, upcoming record Everything's Fine finds the award-winning singer and producer at the peak of his songwriting powers. On his first album in five years, Corby artfully considers the human condition, riffles through life’s messy bits and ultimately finds peace amid the chaos.
On the day Matt Corby was meant to start recording his third album, he and his family were instead rescued by a neighbour. Their home had been engulfed by the flood waters that raged through Queensland and NSW in early 2022. Within a week of these life-altering events he entered the studio and ‘Problems’ emerged. The album’s woozy first single was a creative turning point for Corby, whose last few years have been marked by a dizzying see-saw of the best and worst that life has to offer.
A sonically adventurous rumination on all of life’s big stuff, Everything’s Fine is a record that pulls together a decade of musical threads and production nous to reveal a body of work that glides even deeper into Corby’s RnB roots, while embracing aspects of vintage funk, hip-hop and playful soft rock motifs. Whereas 2018’s J-Award Winning Rainbow Valley was flush with layered instrumentation, on this record, Corby wanted to see what he could do with just five key elements – knowing that if every piece found its place the perfect song could emerge.
