Biografia

American singer, songwriter, and musician Shawn Mullins is often referred to as a folk artist, but his recorded output encompasses many genres including rock, alternative, and Americana. His best-known song is 1998’s “Lullaby”, which hit Number Seven on the Billboard Hot 100 Singles chart. The song earned him a 1998 Grammy nomination for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. Born in Atlanta, Georgia, Mullins considered military service – he was a member of the U.S. Army Reserve - before deciding on a career as a songwriter. His self-titled debut album was independently released in 1990. He continued to release a series of independent studio and live albums throughout the 1990s. While his releases were embraced by critics, he didn’t achieve commercial success until he signed with Columbia Records and released the album Soul’s Core (1998). The Platinum-selling album hit Number 54 on the Billboard Top 200 Albums chart and spawned the hit single, “Lullaby”. In 2002, he joined forces with fellow singers-songwriters Matthew Sweet and Pete Droge and formed The Thorns. They released their self-titled album and toured to promote it. Once that brief union came to an end, he returned to his solo career and continued to issue studio and live releases as well as three compilations. His songs have been used in television shows in the U.S. and Australia, where “Shimmer” became the unofficial theme song of the 2000 Summer Olympics.
