Zumbis do Espaço, a Brazilian horror punk band from Taubaté, São Paulo, was formed in 1996 by Tor, Zumbilly, and Gargoyle. Their shared passion for horror films, B-movies, and comics influenced their Portuguese lyrics. The group released their first demo with four tracks, leading to their debut album, A Invasão, in 1996. They gained public attention with their first live performance at São Paulo's Black Jack club on February 15, 1997. Following bassist Fábio "El Phantasma" Balbo's tragic death in a car accident in 1999, Gargoyle rejoined the band and they released O Despertar da Besta as a tribute to El Phantasma. The band continued with notable releases such as Abominável Mundo Monstro and their first live album, O Mal Nunca Morre. Their 2005 album Aqui Começa o Inferno earned national music press attention.
