Hailed as one of the most successful acts in Mexican rock history, Zoé is an alternative rock band whose psychedelic and synthpop-tinged sound has conquered audiences in their home country and all over Latin America. Though formed in 1994, the band went through several changes in their lineup before consolidating as a five-piece in 1997. Composed of León Larregui (vocals), Sergio Acosta (lead guitar), Jesús Báez (keyboards), Ángel Mosqueda (bass), and Rodrigo Guardiola (drums), Zoé released their independent eponymous debut in 2000, which helped them sign a record deal with Sony Music. They followed up with the Phil Vinall-produced Rocanlover (2003), which spawned the fan favorites “Peace and Love” and “Veneno.” Following their departure from Sony, the band released the EP The Room (2005), which was certified gold after selling more than 50,000 copies. In 2006, Zoé performed at the legendary Vive Latino festival and released the blockbuster Memo Rex Commander y el Corazón Atómico de la Vía Láctea. The LP went straight to the top of the Mexican charts, spearheaded by the singles “Vía Láctea” and “No Me Destruyas.” Their third album’s success found them playing sold-out shows throughout Latin America and touring with established acts such as Gustavo Cerati and Los Tres. They followed up with Reptilectric (2008) and MTV Unplugged/Música de fondo (2011), which won a Latin Grammy for Best Alternative Music Album. Preceded by the single “10 A.M.,” Programatón (2013) saw the band taking a more experimental approach and embarking on a massive tour of 75 shows in 16 countries. The ensuing release of Aztlán (2018) marked Zoé’s return to a more commercial sound and earned the band a Latin Grammy for Best Latin Rock, Urban or Alternative Album that same year.
