Biografia

A five-piece who went from playing house parties to selling out stadiums, Six60 are one of New Zealand’s biggest modern pop groups, infusing their music with traditional Māori instrumentation along with dub, reggae, and other elements. The band met as students at the University of Otago in Dunedin in 2008 and began cooking up tunes at their student flat on 660 Castle Street, which later inspired their stage name. After building up a dedicated local fanbase, the R&B-powered pop-rock quintet made their EP debut in 2009, which included enduring fan favourite “Someone To Be Around”. Their acclaimed self-titled debut album came two years later, topping the charts in New Zealand and pushing Six60's fame to dizzying new heights. The nonuple platinum-selling Six60 featured the quadruple platinum-selling single "Don't Forget Your Roots", the triple platinum-selling "Only to Be" and two double platinum-selling singles “Forever” and "Rise Up 2.0.", among others. In 2012, the group notched up six NZ Music Awards, including Best Group and Highest selling New Zealand Album. The Six60 EP came out in 2017, with all six songs charting in the Top Ten, and in 2018 the band won five Vodafone New Zealand Music Awards and were the most streamed artist by New Zealanders on Spotify. For the band's third self-titled studio album (2019), production was steered predominantly by Malay with Printz Board, Big Taste, E. Kidd Bogart, and Justin Gray also on board. The LP topped the Official New Zealand Music Chart and was later certified triple platinum in New Zealand. Six60 returned in 2022 with their fourth studio album, Castle St.
