Shining

Shining was a Swedish black metal band formed in Halmstad in 1996 by Niklas Kvarforth. The group's musical style evolved from black metal with doom influences to progressive extreme metal, characterized by clean guitars, guitar solos, and complex time signatures. Shining released their first EP Submit to Selfdestruction in 1998, on which Kvarforth played guitars and bass. Their debut album, Within Deep Dark Chambers, was released in 2000, marking Kvarforth's debut as the band's vocalist. The band's early albums, including Livets ändhållplats (2001) and Angst, Självdestruktivitetens Emissarie (2002), established their dark and depressive sound. After disbanding in 2004, Shining reformed later the same year with a new lineup capable of live performances. Notable albums from this period include The Eerie Cold (2005) and Halmstad (Niklas angående Niklas) (2007). The band continued to release music, including their self-titled album in 2023.
