American indie singer-songwriter Angel Olsen was born Angelina Maria Carroll on January 22, 1987, in St. Louis, Missouri. During her adolescence, she joined a local rock band called Good Fight and then began performing solo in local coffee shops before relocating to Chicago in 2006. There, she quickly became a part of the city’s thriving independent music scene through a series of collaborations with the Cairo Gang and Bonnie “Prince” Billy. Strange Cacti, her debut EP, appeared in 2011 and was followed by her first LP Half Way Home a year later. After signing with indie label Jagjaguwar, Angel Olsen entered the studio with producer John Congleton to record what would become her third album, Burn Your Fire for No Witness, released in early 2014. Unlike her previous releases, the album featured a more polished, fuller sound that elicited praise from critics and fans alike. It was her first charting success, peaking at Number 71 on the Billboard 200. By the time she released 2016's My Woman, Angel Olsen had relocated to Asheville, North Carolina, and further developed her style. My Woman fared even better than its predecessor, placing at Number 47 in the US. In 2019, she featured in Mark Ronson's Late Night Feelings and returned with the lush, orchestral pop of All Mirrors later that year. Also produced by John Congleton, All Mirrors hit Number 52 on the Billboard 200. Her fifth studio album, Whole New Mess, was made available through Jagjaguwar in August 2020 and included stripped-down versions of songs from her previous LP. In 2021, Angel Olsen reappeared with the covers EP Aisles. Preceded by the single "All the Good Times," and heavily influenced by her coming out as queer a year before, her twangy sixth studio effort Big Time arrived in 2022 and bowed at Number 121 on the Billboard 200.
