Biografia

Widely acknowledged as one of the great jazz guitar players of modern times, the Boston-born guitarist Mike Stern has come through some difficult periods during his music career and has battled with alcohol and drug abuse. After being checked into a rehab clinic by his then employer Miles Davis, Stern famously quipped (in reference to Davis's own well publicised battle with narcotics addiction), "If Miles wants to put you in rehab, you know you've got something wrong".

Stern began his professional life playing with Blood Sweat and Tears adding his name to the huge roster of talented players who have passed through the band's ranks. Stern joined during the twilight of the band's musical career and gained valuable studio experience playing on the albums 'More Than Ever' and 'Brand New Day' prior to the group temporarily disbanding in 1981. Stern then teamed up with drummer Billy Cobham's band before later joining Miles Davis. He subsequently toured with bass player Jaco Pastorius before embarking on his solo career. Since 1986 Stern has also been closely associated with the respected jazz musician Michael Brecker and has collaborated with Brecker on numerous occasions.

During his career Stern has been nominated for six Grammy Awards and has an impressive back catalogue of 17 solo albums plus numerous credits on other artists' work. In 2017 he toured across Europe with Randy Brecker, Teymur Phell and Lenny White.
