Biografia

An eclectic and highly acclaimed composer who has scored music for ballet, film, television, and various art projects, Max Richter's melodic minimalist style owes as much to traditional classical music as it does to electronica and post-rock. Born in Hamelin, West Germany on March 22, 1966, he was raised in London, England and traveled throughout Europe to study composition. Richter formed the ensemble Piano Circus in 1989 and remained with the group for a decade, releasing a string of albums that reworked the compositions of Brian Eno, Heiner Goebbels, and Terry Riley. Also inspired by the UK dance scene, he worked with The Future Sound of London and Roni Size, but it was the graceful, brooding ambience of his debut solo album, 2002's Memoryhouse, that marked him as a new force in the world of neo-classical music. While maintaining his solo career with albums like Infra (2010), Sleep (2015), Voices (2020), and Exiles (2021), Richter has also composed soundtracks to ballets and stage works. He has also scored many films including  Soundproof (2006), Waltz with Bashir (2008), The Front Line (2009), Black Mirror (2016), Ad Astra (2019), and Spaceman (2022). He’s been nominated for many awards throughout the years - including two Grammy Awards (2015 and 2021) and a Primetime Emmy Award (2017) – and has been honored with many awards from the European Film Awards, the German Critics Association Awards, the Hollywood Music in Media Awards, and more. In 2022, he reworked one of the world’s most popular classical suites and released The New Four Seasons - Vivaldi Recomposed.
