Born on May 13, 1993 in Sneedville, Tennessee, Morgan Wallen is a country music singer and songwriter. He first came to prominence in 2014 as a contestant on the sixth season of American television talent competition series The Voice. Although he was eliminated during the playoffs, he signed a deal with Panacea Records. His debut EP, Stand Alone, was released in 2015. Wallen then signed to Big Loud Records and released his debut single, “The Way I Talk”, in 2016. The single reached the Top 40 on the Billboard Country Singles and Country Airplay charts. His next single, 2017’s “Up Down” (featuring Florida Georgia Line), reached Number 5 on the Singles chart and hit Number 1 on the Airplay chart. Wallen’s third single, “Whiskey Glasses” (2018) hit the Number 1 spot on both charts. His debut album, If I Know Me, was released in April 2018 and featured the three previous singles plus the hit “Chasin’ You”. In May 2020, he released the hit “More Than My Hometown”, the first single from his second album. That was followed in August 2020 by the single “7 Summers”. In October 2020, Wallen courted controversy when he was pulled from a scheduled October 10, 2020 performance on late night TV program Saturday Night Live because one week earlier, he had publicly violated social distancing recommendations during the COVID-19 pandemic. He was eventually rescheduled and performed on December 5, 2020. His second full-length release, Dangerous: The Double Album, was released on January 8, 2021. The album entered the Billboard 200 at Number 1, making Morgan Wallen the first country music artist to debut at the top of the chart since Garth Brooks achieved that feat in 1992. The album was an enormous success, leading many to believe that he was destined to be a global sensation. However, less than a month after the album’s release, Morgan Waller found himself surrounded by controversy again when he was recorded uttering a racial sure in front of his house on January 31, 2021.. When this incident was leaked to the press, satellite and terrestrial radio stations and cable television stations pulled his recordings and videos from their platforms. The Academy of Country Music announced that his album would not be eligible for the Academy of Country Music Awards and his record label indefinitely suspended his contract. However, Dangerous: The Double Album remained at the top of the Billboard chart In February 2021 and, surprisingly, his debut album, If I Know Me, entered the Billboard Top 10 for the first time.
