London‑based post‑punk, gothic rock, and alternative band The Bolshoi was fronted by Trevor Tanner. After forming in 1984 with drummer Jan Kalicki and bassist Graham Cox, the group released the single "Sob Story" and the mini‑album Giants in 1985, establishing an early cult following through support slots for the Cult and the March Violets. The 1986 debut studio album Friends expanded the band’s lineup to include keyboardist Paul Clark, and the group toured the United States, South America, and Poland. In 1987 the follow‑up album Lindy’s Party introduced a more pop‑oriented sound and produced the singles "Sunday Morning" and "Away", the latter reaching number 100 on the UK Singles chart. Despite a planned fourth album, Country Life, the band disbanded in 1988 due to label disputes. Post‑humous releases saw Country Life issued in 2015 and a compilation Bigger Giants in 1990, while the 1999 best‑of album A Way highlighted the group’s enduring influence.
