Ricky Shayne, born George Albert Tabett on 4 June 1944 in Cairo, Egypt, was a singer known for his contributions to pop and schlager music. Raised in Lebanon as the son of a Lebanese father and French mother, he moved to Paris at 15 and studied singing before putting down roots in Italy. His breakthrough came in 1965 with the Top 10 hit "Uno dei Mods" in Italy, followed by a gold record for "Stanotte". In 1967, he released his first German single, "Ich sprenge alle Ketten", which charted quickly. Throughout the late 1960s and early 1970s, he had several charting singles including "Das hat die Welt noch nicht gesehn" and "Es wird ein Bettler zum König". His biggest hit came in 1971 with a cover of "Mamy Blue", which topped multiple charts. After a period of lesser success, he made a comeback in 1989 with the single "Once I’m Gonna Stay Forever" from the Rivalen der Rennbahn television soundtrack album, which became the most successful soundtrack album for a German TV series. He passed away on 8 November 2024 in Berlin.
