48May was a New Zealand pop rock group formed in 2003, consisting of Jon Austin (vocals, guitar), Hook Stowers (guitar, vocals), Shannon Brown (bass, vocals), and Jarod Brown (drums, vocals). The band's name originated from their residence at 48 May Street in Hamilton. Their debut album, The Mad Love, was released on October 13, 2004, and achieved gold status in New Zealand. Stan Bicknell later replaced Jarod Brown on drums. The group appeared on the New Zealand leg of the 2005 Big Day Out and Edgefest05 tour, as well as supporting acts for Alien Ant Farm, Simple Plan, Panic! at the Disco, and Steriogram. Their second album, Streetlights & Shadows, was released on April 30, 2007. The band disbanded due to members pursuing separate paths. They won the Juice TV Music Awards for Best Indie Video for "Fightback" in 2003.
