Leah Ashton is a Los Angeles-based artist whose style and sound is grounded in the combined traditions of soul, jazz, and the 60s/70s era singer-songwriter. Influenced by the likes of Sara Bareilles, Lake Street Dive, Jamie Cullum, Carole King, and Bill Withers, Leah’s music draws listeners in with her powerfully soulful voice that tells stories of self-discovery, empowerment, and chasing after one’s dreams.
Leah’s new holiday EP, sad girl silver bells, was released in November of 2024. This collection of beautifully melancholic Christmas songs mixes heartfelt vocals and jazz adjacent arrangements with lush string and woodwind orchestrations, and leans into themes of heartache, loss, loneliness, and conflict during a time of year that is traditionally met with joy and peace.
sad girl silver bells is a follow up to her 2022 debut full-length album, Late Bloomer: a genre bending, pandemic era, election year journey from the perspective of a maturing woman coming into her own in her mid-30s. Late Bloomer marked a return to Leah’s artist roots after spending more than a decade working behind the scenes in Los Angeles as a contracted vocalist supporting artists like Andy Grammer, Michael Bolton, Matoma, Katori Walker, and JMSN, and performing on stages like the Hollywood Bowl, The Dolby Theater, The Ford Amphitheater, and the Cannes Film Festival, and appearing on TV shows like Jimmy Kimmel Live!, House of Lies, and Good Day LA.
As a Midwest native, Leah began releasing music in her early 20s (an independently released EP Things Better Left Unsaid in 2010, and a self-titled EP from Orangehaus Records in 2007), but took a slightly longer than expected pause on pursuing her own original music upon moving to Los Angeles.
Now, along with continuing to write and release music of her own, Leah is also co-writing a new musical, Two Crowns (working title), developing both the music and script. You can find Leah performing music from all of these projects around the greater Los Angeles area.
