The exciting new album Space of Time from Riven Earth is planned for release on 30th October 2020, featuring Uli Krücken (vocals and acoustic guitar), Wolfgang Beckers (keyboards) and Günter Schlünkes (guitar and bass). These three guys played in different bands before getting together to work on studio projects. Space of Time, the follow-up to Riven Earth’s Project One, leads the listener through some different eras in history.
Uli remembers:
„Time became the keyword for the lyrics when I was bringing them together with the music. I thought about a concept album like some of the great bands of the early seventies, for example, The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway by Genesis and The Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd which are very much of their time. Now I had the idea for the red line working through our songs: Time.“
But Space of Time will be more than that, it is a melting pot of the influences of different styles and elements of Metal, Jazz and Classics. There are so many ideas and different parts, and I really tried hard to find the right lyrics, to get words and music together but when I hit on the central theme, that helped us to come closer to reach our common aim. Time includes so many different aspects of life, it could be a season, a lifetime or an era of political and cultural change, as we still feel nowadays.
In the end, we found it was a wonderful symbiosis and after hearing the complete work, I was driven to tears.“
Günter agrees:
„Well, I was thinking about what should come after an epic album like Project One. The answer was really easy, another one!
However, I knew it would be difficult to top our first release, so I was anxious how successful we would be with the second one. So many times I burned the midnight oil whilst mixing, mastering and playing new parts on the guitar.
Despite all the different styles and genres, to me it sounds like all of one piece.“
Wolfgang added:
„Right from the beginning I thought that our second album would be completely
different to the first. The somehow ethnic sounds of Project One disappeared and orchestral and classical arrangements are used instead. It took us two years to bring the songs into balance. We had a lot of pretty good material but some radical decisions had to be made. Some songs had to be completely rearranged with new parts and ideas added or built in.
The new album is much more powerful than the first and we proudly present: Space of Time
We hope our fans and listeners enjoy it as well, it will fill us with pride.“
