What song on the Seducation album is your favorite?
Sedríque’s music is like that song you heard while scrubbing radio stations and doubled-back to listen in full appreciation. With an alchemic blend of Chris Brown-style polished vocals and the sultry swagger of The Weeknd, Sedríque is an upcoming artist bringing the best of modern hip-hop and pop.
Cedric Lewis Stephens (known professionally as "Sedríque") was born on December 3rd in San Diego, California to a family of singers and music connoisseurs. Already at the age of 3 he laid the foundation for his career performing solos at the local church, and by the time he turned 10 had learned to accompany himself on piano.
Raised in a religious household, the only music Stephens heard was strictly filtered by his parents and only consisted of their selections in jazz, soul, funk, or gospel. Later on as a child of the ‘90s with baggy backwards pants and colorful outfits, Stephens developed a musical taste of his own for the era-defining R&B and hip-hop of the time.
After college, Stephens became lead singer and pianist of a cover band called “Mojo Vibe,” where he had the opportunity to truly hone his skills as a live performance artist.
Stephens’ foray into recording launched in 2014 under the management and guidance of producers Chris Kooreman and Edo Plasschaert, with a much softer R&B ballad style. This partnership led to his first studio EP entitled “Nothin’ But Time” in 2015, along with two music videos garnering over 50,000 views.
After a period of soul searching and a deeper desire for something true to his vision as an artist, Stephens decided to rebrand himself in 2019 as Sedríque - a sexier, more simplistic play on his given name. With this new direction and a fresh lease on his career, Sedríque experimented together with producer duo Dope Dragunz to release the future-bass single “Run from the Morning,” and later the dramatic pandemic-era “Bleeding” in 2020.
For Stephens’ sophomore studio release and debut artist album under the Sedríque moniker, “Seducation” delivers not only a more mature and genuine representation of the style Stephens has always dreamed of creating, but a full 12 tracks of story re-educating his fans about who Sedríque truly is, and will be, as an artist for years to come.
