Ngola Ritmos, an Angolan musical group, was formed in 1947 by Liceu Vieira Dias, Domingos Van-Dúnem , Mário da Silva Araújo , Manuel dos Passos and Nino Ndongo. Initially known as Os Sambas, they aimed to spread cultural and political awareness through kimbundu music during the Portuguese Empire era. Their early recordings included two EPs released in 1964. The group gained prominence for songs like "Mbiri Mbiri", "Kolonial" and "Muxima". Ngola Ritmos also ventured into experimental theatre with Gexto, blending music and drama. Despite political challenges, including the arrest of member Liceu Vieira Dias in 1959, they continued to perform and record until the late 1960s.
