The multi-instrumentalist, singer and composer Mascha Juno invites you to an iridescent trip to the core of a soul with her first album “Uno“. A well known piece in the buzzing puzzle of Berlin`s music scene, Mascha Juno has already caught our intention with concerts and the album “ Live in Dublin “ of Lisa Hannigan & Stargaze, the infamous feminist super-group “ She She Pop “, adventurous Avantgarde Big Band “ Andromeda Mega Express Orchestra “ and last but not least as a new member of Agnes Obel’s Live-Band.
( Mascha ) Juno, named after the roman goddess and the seminal Roland synthesizer, known for its immersive
soundscapes ( and rightfully so! ) created a sonic soundscape with 11 songs, which boasts with hauntingly beautiful hooks and hypnotic rhythms. A rare groove appeal competes with electrified and eclectic affirmations, whilst creating a genuinely joyful maelstrom which transcends the mere musical sphere. Mascha strives for a real physical connection and addresses fundamental questions of life lyrically, invoking a gleaming holocene of human abysses and longings, of invisible boundaries between people,
relationships which should not be and the indispensable will to live against all odds.
The music presents itself as a fickle fabric, woven within a galaxy of various timbres of grooves between Bossa Noir, Avant-Pop and the elegant aesthetics of the now. All the while Mascha is firing up a colorful cotillion, which evokes reminiscences of the golden era of groove and rhythm with provocative and somnambular ease. This landscape of sound is held together by Mascha`s intimate, yet precise vocal performance and her prosaic guitar playing, which acts as a connecting link for the sonic narrative. Contrasting to this, Mascha delicately devises and arranges powerful instrumental passages adjacent to ever-evolving
Mantras and loops with which the listener is invited to contest his or her inner stream of consciousness.
Mascha, while smiling magnanimously, towers over a musical heritage of melancholic, yet focussed songwriting and has the guts to provide us, within a compound movement full of aptitude, with a heart-felt and candid musical statement, so that we can question our fears and our lives and start to move.
