Smaal Cats hail from the Northern Beaches of Sydney, which is the breeding ground of some of Australia’s most exciting artists, such as Midnight Oil, Angus & Julia Stone and Courtney Barnett just to mention a few.
Members of the band formed an artist collective and record label with like-minded individuals called CabinJam.
Smaal Cats have been jamming and gigging continuously over the last 3 years developing a tight and unique repertoire of songs and building a loyal and enthusiastic fan base.
The 4-piece take influence as diverse as Led Zeppelin, Tame Impala, Kings of Leon, Pink Floyd, Joy Division and King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard with a sound rooted between classic blues and psychedelic rock.
Brad on drums evokes memories of the late John Bonham thunder, Charlie, on vocals and guitar evokes the energy of the late Ian Curtis, Sacco on lead guitar shreds like David Gilmore and Brendon on Bass has the stoic energy of a John Entwistle or John Paul Jones.
The band thrives on a constantly evolving sound that keeps their audiences on their toes and have recently released their debut EP ‘Seagulls’.
The Music – ‘They sounded like they’d been performing for ages, a tonne of raw talent on display. Bluesy garage is hard to excel at (there are a lot of middling bands out there going nowhere with a sound that’s easy to learn but hard to master), but Smaal Cats did more than just deliver; they were electric.’
