Once upon a time in the Magical World of Black Girlhood
There lived a beautiful and powerful princess named Peg
Now Peg wasn't an ordinary princess, she was a warrior as well
She fought hard to help her people flee
From an evil space wizard who had waged war and taken control of her planet
Traveling the galaxies, she carried with her a small sword
A golden barret for her hair
And a tiny box that contained a piece of the sun
Spun into thread
It had been passed down to her from her grandmother
And her task should she accept, was to travel the galaxies
To find every Black and Brown girl born and give them a piece of the thread
Once received, the thread would awaken each Black girl's magical powers
Powers that if unleashed could transform their world
They say that till this day
Peg still travels the universe placing threads of Black Girl Magic
In songs, in books, in policies, bed scarves, gardens, wigs
And even in grandmother's kitchens, and grandfather's clock
And sometimes, if you get real still and real quiet
You might find a piece of thread that's been left in you
