New album "Suspended in Motion" out now
Belgo-American soul duo Kurtisz was established in 2014 after Belgian musician/producer Laurent Stelleman and Detroit native singer/songwriter Markest Tate met while performing a cover of Curtis Mayfield’s ‘Pusherman’ as guest performers for a local artist in Brussels. Giving rise to their name Kurtisz.
Kurtisz’s style can be attributed to the 80s funk, Motown soul, classic rock and 90s electro genres they were both exposed to growing up. Markest brings the funk with his smooth, versatile vocals and lyrics. While Laurent brings the rock and beats with his intricate musicality and production. And with a combined wealth of live performance experience behind them, Kurtisz is an absolute treat live.
The band’s debut single BLUE BOLTS was released in 2016 and immediately found a spot on Belgian airwaves for 12 consecutive weeks. Their debut album WIRED, an addictive cocktail of electro, trip hop, rock and soul, soon followed and was dubbed the best album release of September 2016 by Trip Hop Nation.
Following a succession of successful live performances, Kurtisz took time off to regroup and hit-back with the uptempo, soul dance track FANCY FREE in November 2020. The follow-up track SAY WHAT? is a finely orchestrated, sultry funk-rock song was released in March 2022.
Their second studio album is scheduled to drop in 2023. This album delves more into their funkier and groovier side. While maintaining that rock and retro-electro vibe that Kurtisz is initially known for.
