Don Marco & die kleine Freiheit is the brainchild of Markus "Don Marco" Naegele, formerly singer and songwriter for indie garage band Fuck Yeah. After fumbling around unsatisfied with writing songs in his home language German many times, he finally got to the point where things clicked in 2019, starting with lofi homerecordings and eventually booking a studio to see how things might sound with a proper recording. Without any further rehearsals he found a bunch of musical friends to go for the adventure. Kristof Hahn (best known for his work with Swans maybe) came along with his 50s Rickenbacker Lap-Steel guitar, Tim Jürgens (Superpunk, Die Liga der gewöhnlichen Gentlemen) brought his old Höfner bass. Guitar wizzard Kevin Ippisch and Nick Buttermilch on drums had played in the last line-up of Fuck Yeah. Philip Bradatsch, a close friend and gifted solo artist himself, laid down some more brilliant guitar sounds, whereas studio engineer Bonifaz Prexl hit the piano and keyboard keys. In a couple days Don Marco & die kleine Freiheit recorded 17 songs to be mixed and optimized over the next couple months. With a sound that borrows from a wide range of influences and styles, be it jittery Neue Deutsche Welle, laid-back country-twang, late night lofi-folk or full on garagy power pop, Don Marco tries to steer away from a close-minded formula and open up to the joy of experiencing music with like-minded people. The debut album "Gehst du mit mir unter" was released in January 29, 2021.
