Check out my new song Echoes! This track is my most emotional to date and if I say so myself my catchiest! 👌🏼
Electronic artist Matt Gwilt is a new name but no stranger to the music scene. As a founding member of legendary Leeds band, The Sunshine Underground, he toured incessantly and helped build the reputation of one of the great British alternative / electronic bands. When the band split amicably in December 2017 after ten years and four albums, Matt took some time out and hung up his drumsticks for a while to reflect.
The urge to write and perform was not lost though, momentum picked up during lockdown and Matt began to build a recording studio and write from his base in Manchester. This time though he was writing on his own, retaining the electronic sensibilities of later TSU work but with a maturity and emotional sensibility that is very much his own. Also, most significantly and for the very first time, he is singing lead vocals. Recently released Echoes is Matt's most emotional and poignant song to date. From love to war to memories of youth, this song has it all. Matt's fascination with collecting musical gadgets and synthesizers is a huge factor in this track as he envelops waves of warm hypnotic synths and pulsing rhythms all building to a payoff of beautiful chorus's. The words take the listener to a desperate cry for help whilst building to a comforting and resolving chorus and hypnotic end. One of the catchiest songs of 2025! Matt has also recently teamed up with Dan from FC Kahuna who has produced Matt’s hypnotic and psychedelic ‘Where You Belong’.
