On booming festival stages or teeny Bluetooth speakers, the best things happen Superlate. Mavi, aka 'Superlate', spent his late teens tucked away in his bedroom, non-stop music- making while brewing coffees for tourists to fund his newfound festival addiction. Ever since he was exposed to his first festival headline set by dance icons Faithless, his path changed. Before he knew it, he had developed a love affair with the sundowner set and the irresistible energy that fills the air before a headliner takes the stage.
Fast forward to now, and he has built a reputation for producing dance records that blend crisp modern pop with moments that evoke perfect nostalgia. Raised by the sea in Cornwall and now based in Liverpool, his coastal upbringing is unmissable in his music, with beachside melodies and textures flowing out of the speakers from the second you press play. No matter the lyrical content, there is an aura of warmth and energy that his production always delivers.
His records showcase not only his production prowess but also his songwriting ability, with Superlate being either a co-writer or the sole songwriter on all his records and a multi- instrumental background developed from his time playing in bands make him an unstoppable creative force in the studio. This sonic stamp has since garnered attention from A list producers and artists who seek him out to contribute to their records. His addiction to the science of pop songwriting, mixed with his love for groove, has resulted in an addictive unique style.
But it's when Superlate takes the stage that the real magic happens. With his unique live sets combining elements of DJ culture, live synths, guitars, and special guest vocalists, he brings a whole new level of energy to his already infectious sound. His live show has been performed anywhere from small venues to large scale 10,000 strong audiences.
Jack Saunders of BBC Radio 1 hailed Superlate's debut single 'Diamonds' as a “special track,” featuring the crisp textured vocals of RnB artist Immi Dash. He followed that up with 'Barbados,' a collaboration with fellow multi-instrumentalist producer Youngr.
2024 sees the next chapter of Superlate begin, with a stream of collaborations with artists from all over the world and a undoubtable trajectory pointed to huge festival shows filled with joy.
