Italian singer/songwriter Carmen
Consoli, born September 4, 1974 in Catania, picked up the guitar at a young age,
but she made her name with her emotive vocals that she could utilize within
many different genres. While a teen she was part of the cover band Moon Dog’s
Party, which specialized in R&B and soul songs. She made her first album in
1996, Due Parole, but that little heard album did not hint at what was
to come. 1997’s Confusa e Felice reached platinum sales in Italy, and
the title track reached number 3. Her third album, 1998’s Mediamente Isterica, remains a favorite among her fans for its lean into rock and its
exploration of underrepresented aspects of female personalities. All of that
set the stage for her crowning success, 2000’s triple platinum Stato di Necessità, and it’s pair of hit singles, “L’ultimo Bacio” and the number 4 hit “Parole di Burro”. The title track to 2002’s
L’Eccezione, was a top 5 hit and the LP became her first to top
the Italian album charts, a feat equaled by 2006’s Eva Contro Eva. After
2009’s Elettra, she took part in the number 1 charity single “Domani”.
She took a step back from recording, issuing a greatest hits records as well as
a deluxe version of Mediamente Isterica. Her popularity was so
expansive, and her charitable work so well-known, that she was knighted by her
home country in 2012. She returned with an album of new material, 2015’s L’Abitudine
di Tornare, another top 5 album. She featured on the number 4 Tiziano Ferro
single “Il Conforto”. She recorded the song “Coraggio, Onestà e Lealtà” for the 2020 Disney feature Mulan.
