Pittsburgh-based musician Katie Shesko is merging her love of flute and video games to bring the instrument to less classical music. She not only arranges, records, and produces her music in her home studio, but she also streams on Twitch playing live versions of her music as well as improvising over the audience’s favorite songs. With this unique perspective, Katie twists iconic and classic tunes to a modern yet unforgettable melody; making audiences eager to listen in and always coming back for more.
Katie studied Industrial Engineering at the University of Pittsburgh. While in college, she was involved in the marching, concert, and pep bands. Even though she was an engineer, flute was always her passion.
Katie began streaming on Twitch under the name BackseatLink in November 2016 and became affiliated in April 2017. In May 2019 she hit 10,000 views on her channel with over 750 followers. She is also a certified KinderFlute teacher and is teaching students of all ages in Pittsburgh.
Katie's first album, Flute Gaming Chronicles, is video game cover songs featuring selections from Legend of Zelda, NieR: Automata, and Xenoblade Chronicles. It was released on March 28, 2020. In February 2022, she released an EP titled Elemental Journey comprised of 4 original songs inspired by Avatar: The Last Airbender.
