Kati Rán is a Dutch lyricist, audio producer, vocalist and historic sound multi-instrumentalist. As a performer on Nordic, medieval and verious ethnic instruments, she is considered a genre pioneer in the Dark Nordic folk genre since the mid 2000´s. Her music typically weaves nature, mythology and ancient history together in a sound tapestry where intuition and the elemental meet.
Kati Rán's latest 2024 album SÁLA is widely praised as a cinematic, Nordic dark-folk masterpiece, blending atmospheric, meditative sounds with shamanic chants and primal, rhythmic energy. Featuring collaborations with artists from Heilung, Norwegian black metal vocalist Gaahl and special appeareances such as Karl Seglem on the folkloric bukkehorn and Páll Guðmundsson on a stone marimba from Iceland, the album offers a deeply emotional and spiritual journey that is both intimate and haunting.
The record was produced by Kati Rán as a Nordic travelogue over many years time and Jaani Peuhu together and released through Svart Records (Finland).
