Leatherwolf ist eine 1981 in Huntington Beach, Kalifornien, gegründete amerikanische Heavy-Metal-Band, die Anfang der 1980er Jahre aus der südkalifornischen Szene hervorging und in der Besetzung des Sängers Carl Detkin und des Gitarristen Scott Moore auftrat. Die Gruppe veröffentlichte 1984 die Leatherwolf EP, gefolgt von dem Album Endangered Species im Jahr 1985, das in den Vereinigten Staaten als Leatherwolf und in Großbritannien als Endangered Species veröffentlicht wurde. 1987 veröffentlichte die Band das selbstbetitelte Leatherwolf-Album bei Island Records, das die von MTV ausgestrahlte Single The Calling" enthielt. Das 1989er Album Street Ready brachte die Single Hideaway" und markierte mit Titeln wie Wicked Ways" und dem Instrumentalstück Black Knight" einen Wechsel zu einem metallischeren Sound. Nach einer Trennung im Jahr 1992 fand die Band 1999 wieder zusammen und veröffentlichte im selben Jahr das Live-Album Wide Open. Im Jahr 2006 wurde das Studioalbum World Asylum veröffentlicht, gefolgt von New World Asylum im Jahr 2007, bei dem der Sänger Wade Black durch Michael Olivieri ersetzt wurde. Kill the Hunted debütierte 2022 mit dem neuen Sänger Keith Adamiak und einer Besetzung, die auch die ehemaligen Mitglieder Rob Math und Wayne Findlay umfasste.
