Atmosfear are a British jazz funk and Brit funk ensemble from the United Kingdom established in 1978. The group was founded by the musicians Lester J. Batchelor Jr. and Raymond Johnson. The original lineup included Batchelor, Johnson, Stewart Cawthorne, and Andy Sojka with the producer Jerry Pike. They achieved professional recognition for the debut track “Dancing in Outer Space” (1979) which reached number 46 in the United Kingdom. Their recording career included the tracks “Motivation” (1980) and “Extract” (1980) and the studio recording En Trance (1981). Batchelor departed the ensemble following the release of the track “Xtra Special” (1982). After signing with MCA Records the ensemble included the musicians Tony Antoniou, Peter Hinds, and Leroy Williams. Their discography included the studio recordings Trance Plants (1994) and Jangala Spirits (1997) released through labels established by Sojka. They achieved professional recognition for the remix studio recording Altered Slates (1999) which featured the producers Louie Vega and Kenny “Dope” Gonzalez. Sojka died of multiple myeloma in 2000. In 2019 Batchelor established a new lineup of the ensemble and achieved professional recognition for the track “DIOS:2020” (2020).
