Back in the summer of 1996 The Sound Platform was born for a one off show not to resurface again till 1999. Where did those three years go? Darren Smallman (Warped, Toad, Thee Vinyl Creatures, El Grumpos, The Wells Collective) left the edgy expanse of Geelong to see the world. Armed with a guitar, a beer and a pack of smokes, he wandered throughout Europe until he landed back in Melbourne.
After spending three years of writing and recording demos at home, Darren enlisted the help of ex-Thee Vinyl Creatures mates Karl Inderberg and Simon Baird to start recording. Over the next few years, and many line-ups, they released three EPs (on their own label Low Transit Industries) and contributed to label compilations in Australia and Europe.
In 2004 The Sound Platform entered the studio to record their debut long player. This album was never released due to the band splitting up so Darren and Simon could focus on their record label Low Transit Industries. In 2013 this album finally surfaced as part of The Sun & the Silver Anthology featuring all their trademark melodies and experimental orchestration, reaching from flat out pop rock to the big lush pop opus.
