Biography

Best known throughout Europe for the 2004 chart-topping hit "From Paris to Berlin," Infernal is a Danish dance-pop band formed by Lina Rafn, Paw Lagermann, and Søren Haahr in 1997. Based in Copenhagen, Denmark, the band debuted with 1998's Infernal Affairs, which went double-platinum in Denmark and sent five singles — "Sorti de L'enfer," "Highland Fling," "Voodoo Cowboy," "Your Crown," and the Number 1 hit "Kalinka" — into the Danish Top 20. One year after its release, the album was named "Danish Upfront Dance Release of the Year" at the 1999 Danish Grammy Awards. Following the release of Remixed Affairs, Haahr left the band and Infernal became a duo, with 2000's Waiting for Daylight introducing the group's slimmed-down lineup. Once again, the album featured a number of Top 40 hits, with "Sunrise" reaching Number 6 and "Muzaik" climbing to Number 5. Primarily a Danish phenomenon throughout the group's younger years, Infernal became an international act with 2004's From Paris to Berlin, whose title track marked the band's second Number 1 hit in Denmark. The song also peaked at Number 2 in the UK, Ireland, and Finland. "From Paris to Berlin" went platinum, as did the subsequent singles "Ten Miles," "Self Control," and "I Won't Be Crying." Electric Cabaret followed in 2008, charted at Number 2 in Denmark, and matched its predecessor's sales by going double-platinum, with the gold-certified Fall From Grace charting at Number 9 in 2010. As the decade progressed, the band's two members also released material under the name Paw&Lina, with "Stolt af mig selv?" Hitting Number 8 in 2012 and "Forfra" reaching Number 30 in 2014.
