Birmingham (Anthem) (feat. Jaykae) |
Childhood friends Ash Kirnon and Lucas Henry emerged out of Birmingham to become part of the fast-growing afrobashment scene in the mid-2010s.
Kirnon and Henry became fast friends when they met at a Birmingham youth club back in 2011. Almost immediately they began laying down grime tracks together but by the time they emerged onto the wider music scene in 2016 they had already outgrown the genre. Originally releasing tracks simply as Ash X Lucas, they emerged with 'Hitlist' and 'Bad Gyal' showing off a sound that blended rhythmic afrobeats with melodic R&B and a touch of dancehall. The pair quickly slotted into the afrobashment scene, rebranded as Lotto Boyz and coined the term 'afrobean' as a name for their mix of afrobeats and Caribbean roots.
