John Carroll Kirby, born John on February 26, 1983, in California, is an American pianist and record producer based in Los Angeles. Encouraged by his mother to take piano lessons, Kirby immersed himself in jazz from a young age and studied at the University of Southern California. Kirby's early career saw him contributing to albums such as will.i.am’s Songs About Girls and Jully Black's Revival, both in 2007. In 2016, he co-produced three tracks on Solange’s A Seat at the Table, including "Cranes in the Sky", which earned Solange her first Grammy for Best R&B Performance. His solo debut, Travel (2017), was released under Outside Night. In 2019, Kirby signed to Stones Throw Records, releasing Lazzara and Tuscany. He also contributed to notable albums like Solange’s When I Get Home, Bat for Lashes’ Lost Girls, and Frank Ocean's DHL.
