Biography

Tyler Bates is an American film composer known best for his scores for the 'Guardians of the Galaxy' and 'John Wick' franchises, the latter which he wrote with Joel Richard. Known for vigorous themes and soaring cues, he specialises in action pictures and thrillers and also writes for television and video games. He wrote and co-produced 'The Pale Emperor' with Marilyn Manson and travelled on the supporting 'Hell Not Hallelujah Tour' in 2015. His original score for 'Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2' went to number 20 on Billboard's Soundtracks Chart in 2017.

Born in Los Angeles, he spent his youth in Chicago where he learned to play the guitar. Returning to California in 1993 he performed and recorded with the alternative rock band Pet and was hired by director Cassian Elwes to write music for the sci-fi drama 'Blue Flame'. More low-budget movies followed until 2000 when he scored the Sylvester Stallone remake of 'Get Carter'.

He composed for television movies and features such as 'Dawn of the Dead' (2004), '300' (2006), 'Halloween' (2007) and 'Halloween II' (2009), 'Sucker Punch' (2011) and 'Atomic Blonde' (2017). His television work has included 'Low Winter Sun' (2013), 'Californication' (2007-2014) and 'Salem' (2014-2016). His music can also be heard on video games including 'The Rise of the Argonauts' (2008), 'Watchmen: The End Is Night' (2009), 'Transformers: War for Cybertron' (2010) and 'God of War: Ascension' (2013). He spent 2017 touring internationally with Marilyn Manson in support of Manson's album 'Heaven Upside Down' which he also produced. He returned to film scoring for Emilio Estevez's drama 'The Public' and 'Deadpool 2'.
