Having played music from an early age being classically trained in piano, cello and clarinet, Imogen Heap initially intended to become a classical musician before being introduced to more alternative types of music, most notably electronica.
In 1997, at the age of 18, she signed with Almo Sounds, releasing her debut album 'I Megaphone' the following year. Over the next few years she worked alongside established producers David Khane, Dave Stewart and Guy Sigsworth, the latter going on to collaborate with Heap on a project they named Frou Frou. Once again, manipulated electronics were largely responsible for the duo's sound and the pair released their debut album 'Details' in 2002. Unfortunately, they were not signed for a second album and went their separate ways, temporarily reforming to cover the Bonnie Tyler classic 'Holding Out for a Hero' in 2004 for the soundtrack of 'Shrek 2'. Much of Heap's solo work and as Frou Frou has featured in film soundtracks, as well as on TV and in advertising campaigns, including 'The Holiday', 'Garden State' and 'The O.C.'.
Since the split with Sigsworth, Heap has enjoyed further success as a solo artist with albums 'Speak for Yourself' and the Grammy Award-winning 'Ellipse'. She collaborated with deadmau5 on the track 'Telemiscommunications' from 'Album Title Goes Here' before releasing her fourth studio album 'Sparks' in 2014. She wrote the music for the West End play 'Harry Potter and the Cursed Child' in 2016 and began work on her fifth album.
