Biography

Natalie Mering was born into a musical family, which moved several times during her childhood before settling in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. A multi-instrumentalist, she began her music career as the bass guitarist of alternative band Jackie-O Motherfucker. She then toured with the bands Natural Almanac and Axolotl. She independently released the experimental album 'Strange Chalices of Seeing' in 2007 under the name Weyes Bluhd, before renaming herself as Weyes Blood and releasing the album 'The Outside Room' independently in 2011. She used electronic sounds, homemade instruments like a one-string bass stick, and her music included distorted vocals and other sound effects. Mering spent more time moving around, living in Kentucky, New Mexico and Baltimore before settling in New York City in 2012. At this time she collaborated with the artist Ariel Pink, featuring on his album 'Mature Themes' (2012) and touring with him.

Following this, she signed with record label Mexican Summer and released her third album 'The Innocents' in 2014. Her sound had changed from the eerie psychedelia of her first releases to a more conventional folk sound which was even more evident in the album 'Front Row Seat to Earth' in 2016, which was co-produced by Chris Cohen and earned critical acclaim. It included the popular single 'Seven Words'. She also released the EP 'Myths 002' with Ariel Pink in 2017. She released the single 'Andromeda' in 2019, followed by her fifth album 'Titanic Rising' later in the same year.
