Biography

A Canadian country artist with a knack for pop hooks, Tebey was born Tebey Solomon Ottoh on October 14, 1983 in Peterborough, Ontario. He grew up in Ontario the son of a Canadian mother and Nigerian father. In 2003 he had a breakthrough hit in both Canada and the US with the single “We Shook Hands (Man to Man)”. He then worked mainly as a professional songwriter for both pop and country acts penning songs for diverse acts like One Direction and Flo Rida. His impressive resume as a writer included “All About Tonight”, which Pixie Lott took to the top of the UK singles chart, and Justin Moore’s Number 1 country smash “Somebody Else Will”. There was much anticipation for his 2012 debut LP The Wait, and it spun off a pair of Canadian top 40 country hits, “Somewhere in the Country” and “All About Us”. 2014’s Two landed him three more top 40 country hits including his first top 5, 2013’s “Wake Me Up”, which was his biggest selling single to that point. His 2018 EP Love a Girl featured the hit country/pop singles “Denim on Denim” and “Who's Gonna Love You”, the latter becoming his first Number 1 hit as a performer. It also included the electronic dance music-influenced country song “Show You What It's Like”. In 2019 he released the single “Good Jeans”, a Number 2 country hit, and a collaboration with Marie-Mai, "The Good Ones", that would give him another top 10 country hit and provide the title for his 2021 album.
