Camouflage is a synthpop band from Germany founded in 1983. The founding members include Heiko Maile, Marcus Meyn, Oliver Kreyssig and Martin Kähling. In this formation, they initially performed as Licenced Technology. A year later, Martin Kähling joins them and the band is renamed Camouflage. In 1987, Camouflage released the single "The Great Commandment" via Metronome Records. The song climbed to number 14 in Germany and even reached number 59 in the US charts. The accompanying album Voices & Images also became an international success in 1988, reaching number 16 in Germany and number 100 in the USA. In 1989, Camouflage scored another hit with "Love Is a Shield". In Germany, the song climbed into the German Top 10 at No. 9, reaching No. 11 in Austria and No. 29 in Switzerland. The album Methods of Silence (1989) reached No. 13 in Germany. After that, the band became much quieter. The albums Meanwhile (1991, number 61 in Germany) and Bodega Bohemia (1993, number 98 in Germany) do not quite meet expectations. Spice Crackers no longer made it into the charts in 1995. After that, it takes a while until the next studio album. It was not until 2003 that another long player was released, Sensor. The album reached number 26 in the German charts. After the album Relocated (2005), the band took a longer break. Camouflage returned in 2014 with Greyscale. The album climbed to number 14 in Germany. To mark the 30th anniversary of the album Bodega Bohemia, Camouflage released the longplayer again in 2024 with numerous demo versions. The new version enters the German charts once again at number 10.
