Born in New York but raised in Boulder, Colorado, Gretchen Peters is not only a highly successful artist in her own right but she's also one of Nashville's most revered songwriters having written hits for Etta James, Neil Diamond, Trisha Yearwood, Shania Twain, Faith Hill as well as successful collaborations with Bryan Adams.

She relocated to Nashville in the mid-1980s where her heartfelt songs found immediate popularity and great commercial success, opening the door for her own emergence as a fine singer-songwriter blending different styles of folk, country and Americana. Her clear, expressive voice and sense of heartbreak made her a natural for stardom in Nashville after her career first took off in 1991 when George Strait had a hit with her song 'Chill of the Early Fall' while Martina McBride's interpretation of 'Independence Day' in 1993 achieved even greater success and was voted Song of the Year by the Country Music Association.

Peters' songs subsequently became hits for some of the biggest names in country music, while her own reputation as a performer grew in the wake of her 1996 debut solo album 'The Secret of Life', the title track of which became a hit for Faith Hill in 1999. A series of successful albums followed including 'Halcyon' (2004), 'Burnt Toast & Offerings' (2007), 'One to the Heart, One to the Head' with Tom Russell (2009), 'Hello Cruel World' (2012), the award-winning 'Blackbirds' (2014) and 'Dancing With the Beast' (2018).
