Hawken Horse was created on a solo 14-hour drive from Nashville to Northern Wisconsin for deer season by hit songwriter and history-fanatic Andrew Scott Wills.
Determined to merge his gift of songwriting with his passion for the American frontier, Wills writes songs inspired by famous mountain men and movies like Jeremiah Johnson and The Last of Mohicans.
The self titled debut Hawken Horse and follow up High Country pay homage to the Rocky Mountain fur trappers such as Jeremiah Johnson, Hugh Glass and Jedidiah Smith. Stand out tracks Free and Ol Ephraim anchor the initial offerings.
The second full length album, Longhunter zooms in on the Appalachian frontier of the 1700s with songs about Daniel Boone, Simon Kenton, James Harrod and more. Pennsylvania Long was a quickly embraced anthem for black powder shooters and historians alike.
His 3rd full length album is entitled Westward Water and features lead tracks Enterprising Young Men and Parts Unknown. The prior pays tribute to “Ashley’s Hundred” and features artwork with the actual 1820 advertisement searching for fur trappers to ascend the Missouri River, the later is an anthem for the adventurers past and present.
Hammered & Hewn: Volume 1 and Hammered & Hewn: Volume 2 represent Hawken Horse's 4th record in a massive "sweeping saga" covering frontier history from 1786 to 1886.
In 2024 Hawken Horse announced his side project Aspen Ridge, releasing frontier instrumental music.
The latest project, The Teton Tapes draws inspiration from the iconic peaks in Wyoming.
