The Bad Week were formed in July 2020 on the streets of Novi Sad, Serbia, as a trio of individual street musicians that unintentionally teamed up to respond musically to the lack of events due to the global pandemic. The founding members are Strahinja Jajić (acoustic guitar, vocals), Stefan Stefanović a.k.a. Gileta Slim (mouth organ – harp), and Danijel Seethaler a.k.a. Danny Boy (drums, cajon). As the city is famous worldwide for its culture of street performers, the band contributed to its atmosphere and energy, eventually leading them to expand their art by performing in bars and clubs throughout Serbia, and later the surrounding countries.
The unique trio is mostly oriented towards the American country blues/acoustic blues style with a signature Balkan temperament in their performance. In addition to covers, through their gigs, they have created their own repertoire that was eventually transformed into their debut album, “So It Was”, released in 2022 through the Multimedia Music label, and promoted by singles “Looking For Love” and “Hey Hey”. Even though characterized as ‘acoustic blues’, their live performances are highly energized, often bringing their blues to the edge of rock’n’roll of the 50s and jump blues of the 40s, resulting in an all-out dancing parties that our elders experienced in the first half of the 20th century.
Within the following years, along with few hundreds of live performances and several sold-out printings of their debut album, The Bad Week became a member of the European Blues Union from Brussels as the very first representative from Serbia, and also participated in the Czech international blues competition Blues Aperitiv as the first Serbian act both to participate and to win the competition. That earned them a spot at one of the most important blues festivals in Europe – “Blues Alive” – at which they will perform in November of 2024 and 2025.
With winning the 37th edition of the Serbian unplugged music festival “FAMUS” in 2021, and reaching the semi-finals of the Croatian “Supertalent” TV show in 2022, some of the most notable performances that followed are the “International Blues Camp”, “Dvigrad Blues Festival”, and “Thrill Blues Festival” in Croatia, “Days Of Thunder” fest in Slovenia, “TrotoArt Festival” in Bosnia and Herzegovina, “Bluzika Jazz & Blues Festival” and “Acoustic Rock Fest” in Serbia; all before they were personally chosen by the blues legend Ana Popović to open for her concert in Belgrade on June 2024.
On the 13th of June, led by the single “Playing”, The Bad Week released their second studio album, “It Is How It Is”, which is currently promoted through their summer/autumn tour. The 16th of October marks the release of their second single, “If You Wanna Do It”, which is a perfect example of that high energy that listeners can expect at their gigs.
