311, pronounced three-eleven, are an American rock band from Nebraska who took their name from the police code for reporting indecent exposure. Their first independent release was the EP 'Feels So Good' in 1989 and they continued to release independently until 1992 when they signed to Capricorn Records. Their first major release was 'Music' in 1993, and although the lead single 'Do You Right' charted at number 27 in Billboard's Modern Rock Tracks Charts, the album itself failed to make a dent.

Their mainstream breakthrough came in 1995 with the release of '311'. The album gave the band their first number one single, 'Down', which scored the top spot on the Modern Rock Tracks Charts. Throughout the latter half of the '90s, they released five further albums including 'Live' recorded at a show in New Orleans. 2003 saw their seventh album 'Evolver' and a cover of The Cure's 'Love Song', their version featuring in the film '50 First Dates' starring Drew Barrymore and Adam Sandler.

After spending several years focusing on their touring schedule and setting up their annual Unity Tour which saw them perform 37 shows in 27 states, they got back into the studio in 2009 to record their ninth album 'Uplifter'. After the success of the Unity Tour, 311 set up and annual Caribbean cruise in 2011 that saw them perform three shows over four days while passengers travelled from Miami to Caicos. The annual Unity Tour continued to grow in success, attracting more people and bigger names every year. In 2016 they announced that they had been working on a new album, set to release in 2017. They funded the album through PledgeMusic with their fans happy to help the record get made. The album was released in June 2017.
